Inspired by the tales of Mami Wata, the mermaid goddess of oceans, and a passion for surfing, Bantu was created by merging the rich history of African art and textiles and pairing it with its often overlooked, deeply rooted surf culture. The idea behind Bantu was to introduce the global fashion world to the vibrant beach culture of coastal Africa with a line of western swimwear that is a fervent supporter of ethical fashion. By supporting local vendors and artisans, we have revolutionized the use of traditional wax cloth by juxtaposing indigenous prints with modern beachwear, all while contributing to the growth of an industry on a struggling continent.
